Denver Police Department Selects Doron Precision Driving Simulation System
Binghamton, NY, January 2004
Doron President Donald E. Wenzinger announced today the sale and installation of a four-place AMOS II system at the Denver Police Academy. The system is located in a stand-alone building on the academy grounds provided exclusively for simulator training.
“Our intention is to provide in-service training for almost all 1,400 members of the Denver Police Department,” said Denver Police Academy Acting Director, Lt. Joseph Ferraro. “The patrol division includes 900 officers. They will receive in-service training at the rate of 16 per day until they complete the program. Then we’ll start with other members of the department.”
The AMOS II system will also be used to provide expanded training for officers who have been involved in on-duty vehicle accidents. The program administered by the training division includes time on the AMOS II system, videos, and training on a road course.
Doron engineers customized the four-place AMOS II system several ways to personalize the simulator interiors to more closely replicate the Denver Police Department’s patrol vehicles. Denver’s vehicles are Ford Crown Victorias and Doron was able to replicate the dash and the radios used in the Crown Vic and install them in the AMOS II simulators. The driving scenarios in the simulators will feature Denver city street names for more training realism.
“Denver’s AMOS II system will allow for individual training as well as the opportunity to coordinate four officers working together in pursuit situations,” said Doron Precision Systems President Donald E. Wenzinger. “Building skills and teamwork in the simulators is safe and efficient. After training hours on the simulator, officers can make their transition to road course work with more confidence and with greater understanding of a pursuit using multiple patrol vehicles.”
Use of the system will be extended to other City of Denver departments as well as law enforcement agencies in the Denver area.
